Generally the devices operated around 138 or 139 MHz. However, I have one
of a different design at about 150 MHz, these are about the size of an
8-track casette with two spikes on the bottom and a whip antenna. I can
sweep the antenna some time and tell you across what range it will work
efficiently. Look up Seismic Early Warning System or SEWS for more info and
system options. Most cacti are not native to that region, but some cholla
has been brought in, I would be suspicious. Any pics?

Any idea on the frequency?
There are a few cacti (sp) near the border of Groom Lake that I have my
doubts about being plants. With a thermal imaging device, it would be easy
to spot a real plant from plastic.
