The mobile units are VHF ASTRO spectras with W3 config.

Considering shows usually run 1-2 years behind the current date, they are proberly using XTL-5000s now with the O3 config.
This is standard issue.
The portables they use are Motorola XTS-5000 VHF with FPP, XTS-4000 VHF, & Nextel cellphones {Depending on the Op} They of course can use local PD radios for inter-op. So if you dont see a motorola radio in thier hand, then its most likely a inter-op radio.
And of course when they are not in the NY area, they use the local USMS radios, such as Fl they use ASTRO sabers for portables.
Listening to the TV shows radio comms, they are for sure talking on P25 digital on thier motorola radios in NY & FL

Checking out the online episode (the Columbian Doctor), the small HT looks just like a Vertex VX-820 (Likely the VX-P820, P25 version). The larger HT's look like an XTS Series Motorola. Although it didn't look like it had the usual center "Disc" on the keypad. But everything else about it said "XTS". Both HT's antennas looked like classic High-Band, The Mobile handset looks like the Motorola described.

Anybody watch Manhunters on A&E?
While they use a variety of person to person comms, their handheld control heads used in vehicles seem to look like this:

The most recent episode I saw showed the taskforce leader loading up an equipment bag into which he placed a pretty small looking portable. It was definitely not your typical Moto P25 portable (you could beat someone with an XTS-5000)...looked more like a small Vertex portable. Anybody get a better look?
Anybody familiar with USMS equipment?
The show itself is mediocre, but it is TV, so I'm not expecting a lot. It is interesting to see the variety of comms (USMS radios vs NYPD radios vs Nextel, etc) depending on their situation and who is involved. Of course, I suspect that some of the radio conversation shots are even staged for the benefit of better TV.
Ben
