I agree with that.  I guess the only thing better is the folks that use 
multiple receivers.  Some even dedicate on for VHF and one for UHF.  You 
could even have a dedicated gain antenna cut to the appropriate band.  
It just depends on what extent you want to go and how much you want to 
spend.

Another variation I have heard is one scanner scanning known active 
frequencies.  Then a second one is searching or scanning for unknown 
frequencies.  Once something is confirmed it gets switched to the other 
radio.
