To be more complete:

Most of its functions were transferred from the Department of Justice to
three new components within the newly created _Department of Homeland
Security_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Department_of_Homeland_Security) , as part of a major government reorganization following the
_September 11 attacks_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_attacks) of 2001.
These three components include _U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Citizenship_and_Immigration_Services)
(USCIS), _U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Immigration_and_Customs_Enforcement) (ICE), and _U.S. Customs
and Border Protection_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Cust
oms_and_Border_Protection) (CBP).
