That explains a lot. I haven't been to Alameda in years, but I have looked at it on Google Earth a lot since it was shutdown.

He's talking about Coast Guard Island Alameda, not the former NAS 
Alameda.  Two different locations.

It's only really technically Alameda, and the access (except by boat)is 
via Oakland.
