I suspect that there is a good chance that you were listening to the 
United States Marshals Service.  In fact, if I recall correctly, in 
addition to regular duties of the USMS, in DC they are essentially the 
sheriff's office for the District.  So, at least as I understand it, if 
you own rental property, for  example, and need someone evicted, you 
would likely use the services of the USMS at some point.  Or, if you 
needed to execute on wages or a bank account in the District, again you 
might be using the USMS, since there is no District Of Columbia 
Sheriff's Office!
