The one major reason why I would have a scanner with me there is so say I want to keep tabs on a cab.  I never would think to ask and I doubt that at a social security office they run across people with scanners but they are mainly concerned with cell phones being turned on at all, and of course weapons.  Even with the security concerns from back in 2009-2010 they have never been as strict about things as they were this morning and recently.
