KEL is the name of a manufacturer that’s become the generic term for a body wire worn by undercover law enforcement officers so their backup teams can hear the conversation during a drug or weapons sale. It is a transmitter which would be constantly on so the backup can hear if there is a problem and/or record it as evidence. The device is usually disguised as an ordinary item such as a pager (when they were used), cel phone, etc.
