Federal is not always the Major Metropolitan Cities, they do have/need coverage outside of those area.

You say you have spent time searching 162-174 and 406-420, what have you found, Recently
Freq/Tone


Having only driven thru the Rochester area on my way to Toronto, I do know there was plenty to hear along I90 from
Civil Air Patrol, VA Hospital, Border Patrol, Customs, ICE/HSI, TSA, FPS, USM/CSO and DEA to name just a few

Also there used to be/could still be a MARS Repeater or Network

Hi  Bill, I Have both a BCD436 HP and an SDS100 and an Icom ICR30.  When I do search around for federal activity it is a range either from 162-174 and 406-420 MHz.  Albany is a hike from me, and so is New York City where I understand the federal bands are quite

Probably too far for Albany, but there is plenty to be found, with a little effort in the SEARCH Mode.

What are you using for a search Range(s) and Scanner ?
