The SMD card could still be damaged even though you repaired it.
I might have a spare you could try. You mentioned that the cover was damaged
was the cover damaged in the vacinity of the SMD card?

> the photos on

Local is usually to the right and line to the left with center off.
However the
machines could be wired in reverse. The schematic drawings are for
electrical purposes
and do not necessarily show correct physical position.

There is an adjustment to the H lever described in the manual. You will note
that there is a screw and a place to pry the left mounting towards the front or
rear of the typing unit. Read up on this adjustment.

>are present.

Good....

>
>> The distributor brush holder mechanism does indeed do a complete,
>single revolution upon each key press. The arm that holds the brush
>always points up after each revolution ...regardless of which key is
>pressed.

Very good...

>
>> There is a decided electrical 'buzz' coming from the distributor brush
>area with each keypress ...but from nowhere else.

Does the machine "Buzz" when you just turn it on without typing?

>
> > When I press "Here is" when in local mode (or more accurately when
>the switch is set to the right) the answer-back drum does a complete
>revolution. None of the tines appear to have been removed on the drum.

Good...

>
>> The typewheel does *not* appear to revolve when various keys
>are pressed. It stays fixed.

Very bad... Perhaps the vertical and or horizontal posistioning is frozen.
Look for dry (white colored) lubrication wicks on the print carriage. Again
see the manual regarding horizontal and vertical positioning..

>
>> The print hammer could indeed stand to be replaced ...it is
>somewhat worn.

Worn is OK... Squished looking like chewing gum is not.

>
>> The electrolytic caps mentioned looked to be in excellent physical
>condition (although I recognize that is no indication of proper function)
>as do the transformers, and the multi-tabbed power resister mounted
>to the baseplate. All are very clean.

Again, when do you hear the buzzing?

Please try the reader experiment I mentioned in my last email.

Where are you located?

Good luck,
Don
