Exactly right!

It makes a minor change on the sending end. You punch a few more holes 
in the tape. It has no impact on how you set up the receiving end at 
all.

I don't know if that makes it part of creeping features or not. I'm 
reasonably sure that it is not the kind of feature we should try to 
eliminate. It looks like the kind of thing we should encourage as a 
baseline for operation.
