Hi Don:

Yes, I think you are right about the M31 being used as temporary terminals 
at events.

When I first plugged my unit in, there was a metal can that got really 
hot.  I thought at first that it was a bad cap or something, but it turns 
out to be a heater element.  According to Jim or Jack, it was to keep the 
unit warm if it was used outside at sporting events or such.

It is the smallest and lightest of the teletype machines -- the laptop of 
the day I suppose!
