Jim,

Welcome to the Greenkeys maillist.

Several weeks ago some members of this list discussed the idea of starting
an autostart RTTY net. It is still in the startup stages. Try accessing
the archives for this list for the past few months to see some of the
discussion.

An autostart RTTY net is one where stations monitor a specific frequency
continuously and set up their TTY machines to start when there is a signal
on the channel.

The frequency selected for HoffNet is 10.137300 MHz for the mark signal.

Operations use common amateur practice: modulation is FSK, shift is 170
Hz, space frequency is below mark, speed is 60wpm (45.45 baud).

Part of the reason for starting the net is to have a place where
operations are mechanical TTY friendly. Line length should be limited and
each line should be terminated with multiple <CR> and <LTRS> to allow time
for carraige return. The recommended procedure is in the archive. I
think it was <CR><CR><LF><LTRS><LTRS>.
