There were a few messages recently inquiring about Fred Schmidt and
Typetronics and whether or not he still handled parts for teletype
stuff....I talked to Fred today at the Birmingham, AL hamfest and I asked
him about that. He seemed rather surprised that people think that he is out
of the teletype parts business, probably because he no longer brings any of
it to the hamfests. I don't suppose that there is enough demand anymore to
make it worthwhile carrying it around. He mostly has tubes and other small
components at most of the hamfests now. He does not have e-mail or a
website, but he does have a phone and a fax machine at his place. Of course,
he is still making the hamfest circuit so I'm not sure how much time he is
actually at home, but he told me to let everyone know that he still deals in
some teletype parts, etc. and to get in contact with him either by phone or
fax. Fred is 90 years old and not in the best of health, but he still seems
to make most of the major hamfests here in the Southeast. I think that it
has been mentioned before, but here is his contact information:
