Hi Gil,
I suggest you do three things to make sure your equipment is properly
dispersed.
1. Document what you have, where it is and what condition it is in. An
accurate inventory will make it much easier to manage after you are gone.
2. Find someone you trust to look after it. Discuss with them what you
expect to be done with it, and how they will be compensated for their
efforts and expenses. Make sure any planned donations will be accepted
by the intended recipients. Talk to whomever is doing your will to find
out how to give them authority over that equipment, even if you have to
assign them as partial executor in that will.
3. Make sure your family knows what arrangements you have made and that
you expect them to be honored. Their emotions may be very unstable after
your death, making it difficult for them to make rational decisions.
Better for you to make some of those decisions beforehand.
From the comments here, I suspect the Sheetz family has fallen prey to
a con man that has convinced them there will be lots of money added into
the estate by selling these "valuable antiques". I only hope they don't
end up in the dump when the money doesn't materialise.
