GreenKeyers - - -

The Project is back up and running, right now using a bitrate of 16
KBits/sec, and on my dialup laptop the audio stream is completely
uninterrupted.

Problems encountered were two-fold...

The laptop that runs the scheduler has a horribly high internal power
supply noise level, and you can hear all of the major actions such as
the mouse being moved in the background. Additionally, when it keys the
com port, it adds an artifact which is dependent on the current loading
of the port. I have an RS-232 tester (Bi-colored LEDs) from Radio Shack
which loads the port a fair amount. You can hear it when the tester is
in the line.

The other problem is that the power supply in the CP-1 is not so hot,
and there was some 60 cycle ripple in the output.

An isolation transformer (Radio Shack Cheapie) eliminated the noise and
hash from the laptop keying source.

I got an old 12 volt 2-amp supply out of the tool cabinet and cut the
power wire to the CP-1 in half, and am now feeding it 13.8 volts, well
filtered. No Hum...

To me it sounds much better.

The encoding system is producted by an outfit called Spacial Audio, and
it has a fairly decent GUI and very logical set-up sequence. It cost a
bit of change, but it has the readily configurable 16 KBit option, which
is desirable for those who are on dial-up.

WinAmp has several options for output configuration.
Clicking on the OPTIONS will generate a pull-down which has PREFERENCES
on the botom.

Clicking PREFERENCES brings up a configuration screen.

On the left hand side there is a number of areas you can configure.
Select OUTPUT under the Plug-Ins Category and find the waveOut output
v2.0.2a. It is MHO that this has the best sound for the teletype
application. Default settings are fine. Select it, hit configure, and
then OK. Shutdown winamp and then restart it. I believe you will be able
to tell the difference right away.

I'm going to let this thing run all night, and maybe get a bit of news
on it later - ulp - this morning. I've lost track of time.

Comments regarding the sound quality are solicited. Right now I think it
is pretty good. And you???

Thanks & 73,

George - W7TTY
