I am sorry to report that my information was incorrect.  The actual 
meaning of this acronym is:

SBC Employee Investment Club

I think their heads are on a little backwards.  I think it is 
supposed to indicate the principle of "investing in employees"

SBC is a real oddity.  In the old Bell System they ranked next to 
last in earnings and service indexes.  Now they are buying AT&T.  Sad 
news for the future of wire communications.  And sad for us that look 
to them for our retiree benefits.
