I'm glad you asked.
   
The project was announced in October 1969 in RTTY Journal.
 
Approximately 160 Model 28 KSR machines were involved.
 
Thanks to the Northern California Amateur Radio-teletypewriter Society and  
Western Electric.
 
It was the first time that any Model 28 gear was made available to  hams.  
 
Before that, the official policy was to smash any out-of -service equipment  
during disposal.
 
Locally, Bell of PA would smash the Keyboard on one machine and  the Line 
Printer on the next unit.  It made both machines junk and  kept the Accountants 
happy.  As hams, we could take both machines and make  a good machine out of 
the two junked machines.
 
...and why was the project named Mouse?   Irv's wife  mentioned to Irv that 
it seemed like a bunch of mice running after the cheese  and while we call this 
RTTY, the military calls it RATT.  So, the project  got named Mouse...
