I once saw a pre-Selectric IBM electric typewriter, one with type bars, 
operating as a teleprinter. I don't know what kind of interface it used 
- i believe it was mechanically linked to something under its table. I 
have one of those typewriters (not a teleprinter) in more or less 
working order. I had inherited it from the boss's secretary at work when 
she got a Selectric II.
