I was running short of ribbons once upon a time, but had kept all my old
ones, so I placed them in a zipper plastic bag and sprayed them with Marvel
Mystery Oil and they all came back to life.
Seemed this process works with WD-40 as well, but the solvents in the WD
evaporate and leave what appears to be the old STP oil thickener, whereas the
Mystery oil does not.
I am still using this process and did find some ribbon re-inking ink at a
local print shop.
If you place a few drops of the ink on each of the ribbon(s) while rolled up
tight the fabric evenly distributes the ink within the spool. Keep the bag
sealed when you are not accessing a "new" ribbon, and the process seems to
keep the ribbons alive for years.
I am now 60 yrs old, and have ribbons that are 40 years old still working.
For me.
hope this helps.
