How about someone make a dongle that has a "real" serial port attached to 
a DA-9, and then have it interface to your computer through USB.  You then 
have an API where you send commands to the dongle to get it into the right 
mode (baud rate, stop bits, parity, etc.) and then send a command to start 
passing data back and forth.  Hmm, sounds like a modem ;)
