GA, Craig es all us "olde slipstickers" [huge anachronistic, dirty ole
ingineer's grin]
Ya know, all this talk about the ol rule brings back the good
memories. I, too am the proud guardian of 2
12" Post bamboo rules, a 12" Pickett aluminum rule, and a couple of
others, not counting the "aviation specifics"
(E-6B, etc).... I also have managed, tho I don't know how, to maintain
possession of the several books of logs and
trig functions which, of course, go with said rules.
Darn it, I miss 'em.....interpolation, squinting at the hairline and
all..... I used to be able to beat the pants off
anyone with even a scientific calculator...... alas, the years (all 59
and a head injury to the 'ol frontal lobe) have taken their toll, and I
sure aren't as fast as I used to be but I can still use 'em all, even
the aviation ones, but, unfortunately, the FAA not particularly liking
those with closed head injuries in the pointy end, my medical, alas, is
no more... This being said, I have no regrets. (more time with the
Greenkeys --hi--)
Craig, you are dead right about the "collector's items".... I doubt if
there is 1 in 30 people today that actually knows what one is
or used for. $700 you say?????? WOW!!!!! now, I just MIGHT have a few
"excess to my needs" hmmmmmmmmmmm ;-)
(book of logs and trig functions sold separately, void where prohibited
or taxed, always use your slipstick responsibly, dealer contribution may
affect rebated price).
Anyhow, thanks, everyone, for bringing back the memories.. Yup,
computers are fantastic, but darn it, just like the synchro discussion
of the other day, analog anything is fun, and allows one to actually
work with one's mind, something which is totally lost on the newbies of
today. It's kind of like my set of drafting instruments..... sure CAD
is precise and a heck of a lot labor saving, but I still like the
'ol board and all the gimmicks attached thereto....... considering I am
still a "young 'un" to a lot of ya, I feel extremely fortunate to have
been able to at least start my career with the "old ways"...
73 es tnx much
