Special thanks to T. Tillson and J. Murphy for their help in helping me understand what the heck is going with my reset bail! After several weeks of looking and learning, I think I finally understand it all. All this time, I had a misconception about where the h-shaped slide was supposed to attach. This was causing all kinds of mental confusion. I finally (I think) figured out where its supposed to go and thing began to fall into place in my understanding.

So, I wrote up a little article that describes what I went through and my new understanding of how this bit of the machine works. It can be read here:
http://www.hertzmail.com/rtty/resetbail.htm I am hoping if someone else runs across this problem and has as hard a time understanding the situation as I did, that this article might help in some way.

You will see where I originally thought this h lever was to fit, and then where I realized it actually fits.

Few final questions
1. Can someone help me identify the "unidentified lever" in my diagrams? I am interested in a part number and a manual/page number where I can find this. I'd like to update the article.

2. How hard is it to insert this h-lever without a major disassembly for a novice like myself? Or would I be better off swaping my typing reperf for one that has this lever?

3. Assuming this lever can be added without weeks of dissasembly then weeks of reassembly (and then the inevitable "extra parts" left over) does anyone have this part they are willing to part with? Please name the $$.

4. It seems that the very end of the arm for the reset bail hovers over the mainshaft of the reperf. I was wondering if there was some condition whereby the mainshaft itself could reset the bail? Mr. J. Murphy suggested that without the h-lever, if I were to simply send "blank" to the reperf, that it should actuate the reset bail and clear the bars. However, I cannot seem to make this work. Is it possible that somehow my mainshaft is missing a cam of some kind that if I had it, would reset my reset bail? Otherwise it seems strangely coincidental that the arm of the reset bail should be so close and centered to the mainshaft with a little "handle" end that begs for being actuated.

Thanks again to EVERYONE who tried to make this sink into my thick skull. Special thanks to J. Murphy who had the extra patience to help me here.

Eugene
