Bill,

Thank you for your informative reply. I will download from the links and
install in XP Pro first and let you know how I get along. Thanks again.

Jim,
Recent versions of HeavyMetal, both the perl and stand-alone executable,
should work just fine on Windows 2K/XP. In fact, I no longer even have any
older Windows systems around to test on so development is done mostly on my
Windows XP laptop. The latest stable version is:

V1.27: <http://www.buzbee.net/heavymetal/hm_1_27.zip>

Try it out and let me know if you have any problems. Note that the
"readme" file talks about having to install a separate utility program to
support direct access to your serial ports. This is no longer the case. I
left these instructions (and code) in there for now, but it all should work
"out of the box". Just download the .zip file, unzip it and double-click on
HeavyMetal.exe.

Let me know if you have any problems with it,

...Bill

P.S. Note that there is a problem with heavymetal.pl when running on a
Linux system. I made what I thought were "windows-only" changes that broke
the Linux version. The code is fixed in the current experimental version
at:

V.128 (experimental) <http://www.buzbee.net/heavymetal/hm_1_28.zip>
