I think this is a matter of opinion. I have been licensed since 1972 and of
course had to pass the code test. At that time there were no where close to
the diffrent modes we now operate. You had AM, CW SSB and RTTY and Slow scan
I do not think it is for me to insist that someone else needs to know the
code if they have no intention of using it.That would just be much wasted
time spent for no reason at all.
It is also a lost cause, like it or not, having to pass code to get your
license is shortly going to be a thing of the past as it is in many country
s already.
Why don't we all just stop wringing our hands over it and get on with
whatever we are doing? Learning the code never gave me a strong mind or
strong anything else. If you like it , use it, if you don't, chose another
mode.
Another Wayne that has been there.

Working hard to learn and pass the code rather than taking the easy way
out, does a lot more for one than just passing an exam. It builds a
stong mind and gives a person a feeling of having done something. You
keep working on it Wayne and you will have something many others won't have.
Reminds of of a story.
One buddy of mine wanted to get his General, and another buddy to him
that if he ever got his general he would give buddy No. 1 $100.00 for so
doing. Well buddy No.1 took the easy way out. Since he had some minor
issues with his heart he got his doctor to sign off saying that learning
the code would be to stressful on his poor old heart (Load of crap) so
he got his General without learning the code. So when he got his ticket
in the mail, he went over to buddy No.2 and had the gall to ask for the
$100.00 and he got it.
Anything worth having is worth working for.
Just one hams thoughts
