Hello All:
I have been reading about the activity of RTTY on 20 meters and just want to say that I have been operating RTTY for over
40 years, first with the mechanical machines and now I have gone to the computer.
I am operating most every night when their are stations to talk to. I do not operate any contests and you can say that we are a rag chewer!! I even have a small station at my office that I use when business is slow... I also have a Model 28KSR at the office and have it hanging on a Dovetron TU, one that has the Loop Supply. I must say the majority of the stations that I get hard copy on with the 28 seem to have the proper CR/LF combination. For the most part I do get decent print as long as the band is open.
I also have the HAL ASR DS-3100 on line at both the office and in the shack at home. This unit does things different but it does make nice contacts!!! The TU there is the ST-6000...
I fine that there are many active stations that will chat for hours on end and are not just hit and run like in a contest... I will admit a lot of the DX is also hit and miss but the ones that can speak english will stick around for more than one transmission.
I have talked to a few of the members of GreenKeys and have enjoyed it, as I do like to chat about the different equipment and talk about the problems that exist trying to use the old gear and finding out why things do not work. I do have some problems with my latest DS-3100 but we are working, trying to figure out what we have to do to make it work 100 %!!
Anyone looking for a contact give us a call on 20 if you see our signal. The call is W8TTY (Ex W8HYG), either at the home QTH or the Office.
73,
Al
