FREDERICK GRAVES SCHMIDT

Schmidt, Frederick Graves, age 93 of Fort Lauderdale, Florida died on  
August 29, 2006.

Survived by his sister, Mrs. Susan Bates of Burlington, Washington,  
sister-in-law Dorothy Schmidt of Georgetown, Texas, who was married  
to his late brother James David Schmidt, and four nieces and nephews  
and their children.

Born in Whitney, Texas on June 21, 1913, son of the late Albert Paul  
and Mattie Lois (Graves) Schmidt. Raised in DeLeon, Texas where his  
mother was the church organist at the Methodist church for many years  
and a local piano instructor. His father was a pioneer railroad  
conductor, which led to a lifelong love and fascination with the  
history of railroads. Fred published several articles on the subject.

He served with the United States Navy aboard Admiral Halsey's  
flagship and was on the USS Medusa at the time of the attack on Pearl  
Harbor. He graduated from Berkeley with a degree in Electrical  
Engineering following WWII. Fred was a long time Ham Radio Operator  
license N4TT and W4NYF. He worked for the Fort Lauderdale News, (Sun  
Sentinel News) for many years and is a member of the Printer's Union  
and the Firt Presbyterian Church of Plantation.

He owned his own business, Typetronics, dealing with electronic  
parts. Graveside services will be held in the family plot in Whitney,  
Texas. Arrangements by T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home, 954-587-6888.
