Congratulations on your 'find'! Another venerable machine evades the
dump!!
The Mod 19 is extremely "modular" in construction, and breaks down
easily into several more manageable sections... you probably won't even
need tools.
If possible, I would suggest disassembling it at the 'source' - or
certainly supervising it's move. The machine itself, and the
Transmitter-Distributor (tape reader) are just sitting on the table. If
it's up-ended - gravity will make an un-recoverable tragedy out of this.
The metal cover and paper-tape magazine comes off the machine, after
removing the paper crank on the left side and tearing the paper tape from
the punch, if any. The keyboard unit has two thumbscrews on the left and
right (facing you) that hold it into the base... remove these and the
entire keyboard slides out toward you like a drawer. The Typing Unit sits
on the base held down by four large knurled thumbscrews - locate these,
unscrew them, and the 'printer' will lift (carefully - watch what you pick
it up by!!) off the base, leaving the motor assembly. Set all this
delicate old machinery aside where it will be safe.
The TD (tape reader) cover just sits on the TD, lift it off. The TD
itself is 'hooked' under a sliding connector - lift up the front slightly
(there's a handle-niche in the base) pull it toward you and lift it away
from the table - set it aside.
If the typing unit base is hard-wired into the table - take a photo, or
mark the wires - here's where you'll need a small flat-bladed
screwdriver.... if the base wiring terminates in connectors - you won't
need to unwire it - just photo/mark the places where the connectors go,
and remove them. Pull the base up from the felt and fish the wires out
thru the square slot in the table.
The 'power supply' (Rectifier) sits on a shelf in the rear - it also
should be easy to disconnect and remove - it's about 80-90 pounds - not a
big deal.
Now, you should just have the table with the felt surface and all the
oil/grease/chads/grunge that has built up over the years.
Take the Parts seperately to where you wish to install it - and then:
Rebuild it - clean it - lube it - check it out WHILE IT'S IN PIECES...
then put 'er back together and I'll see you on 20M....
Again - I'd be sure to personally supervise the loading and delivery to
you - it's over 400 pounds and unwieldy to move all assembled - take off
the major assemblies (Especially the typing unit and keyboard!!) and move
them yourself.
Lemme know if I can help more - and again - congratulations!!
Cheers
