I followed BPL closely and considered it, at the time, a foretaste of 
the discounting of basic science, discounting of well-established law, 
and discounting of citizens that the current US government has earned a 
reputation for.

Reading this evokes one thought: what took the ARRL so long?

Maybe they can read the writing on the wall and know that they stand a 
better chance (politically) against it now that they would have earlier?

Or, maybe BPL is dead, and it's now easier to truly do in a dead horse?
