Looks like Bart was really a RTTY pioneer from the ARRL story of his
death: http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2006/07/11/1/?nc=1

He happens to have been the fist used for this very strange record on
Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300170169607

I have no connection to the Ebay auction, except for wanting a copy :-)

I am really surprised to learn of the this LP record of Bart, W6OWP, where
Bart was the fist for the Morse Code. In all my 50 plus years of RTTY skeds
with Bart, this is one item Bart never mentioned to me. I sure would like to
see this LP converted to a CD. This is something I can do if I can obtain
the audio from the LP record.
Yes, Bart was really a RTTY pioneer. He started RTTY back to the days
before FSK was authorized by the FCC. His early RTTY QSO's were via make and
break keying. By the time of my first QSO with Bart in 1954 FSK had been
authorized by the FCC. However, for the fun of it Bart and I did send make and
break keying for RTTY a couple of times during our thousands of RTTY skeds.
If anyone is interested in the history of Bart, W6OWP, as revealed to me
during our skeds, contact me off the list so I can send you a copy of an article
I wrote that was published in Radio Guide. The story also tells of Bart's
work receiving Morse Code news broadcasts in Southern California for
distribution to local radio stations. This was in the days before the news was
distributed via Teletype. The start of Teletype distribution caused Bart to change
from CW to TTY as his job. He was excellent at CW. When he was on the road
on vacation trips we kept our skeds via CW where I had to use a computer to
send and receive the CW because Bart would have me send CW to him at 40 WPM.
He would send back to me at about the same speed but I needed my computer to
receive his signal. During my first RTTY contacts with Bart I thought he
was sending with punch tape. When I met him at his QTH for the first time and
saw he had only a model 15 I was amazed at how good he was on the keyboard
sending manually. Over the years I had a lot of practice typing RTTY with
Bart.
