Don et al,
Regarding the UGC-20/77, I believe you are correct, at least my UGC-20
works with a regular 60 ma loop. I am told that the UGC-77 is indeed the
version for Tempest with the photo cells and all that. Gil had a lot of
that stuff outlined on his web site, is that still around? Somewhere on a
hard drive someplace I have some photos of the internals of UGC-77 that
another Greenkeyer (forgotten whom now, sorry) sent me once.
As for the typing unit, I guess I have never studied mine closely enough to
say whether the one in the UGC-20 is any different from those used in full
size Model 28s. I'll have to check that out the next time I am puttering
about with them! At a glance they look the same, but I have never put one
side-by-side with the other.
And don't feel too badly about the museum's Model 12, mine isn't currently
running either. It is at least all together on the table, but it has a
number of electrical contact issues on the table and it won't print
correctly. It worked when I once hooked it all up with clip leads, so it
must be the contacts and contact assembly on the table. The one on mine is
split and needs to be glued/epoxied/whatever to stabilize that. The motors
run and the keyboard/distributor works fine as I can put it in a loop with
the other machines here and type to them just fine. Just need some more of
the four-letter word: TIME.
