Ge, Don es all the group.....
Everyone seems to have completely forgotten about kero as the miracle
healer. Having come from a Steel/Coal town (Johnstown, PA) I can
personally vouch for the universal healing powers of said solvent.
When I was a young yute, I managed to put a 6p nail thru my foot, and
even though MD's and ER's were both available, and affordable to the
parental units, the selfsame parents. having been thru the Depression,
considered such luxuries as a last resort. Accordingly, a rag soaked in
kero was wrapped around said foot, and changed everytime it became dry.
Needless to say, the wound healed perfectly, with no ill effect.
Everyone else I knew used kero as the "unversal healer" for any injury,
and I know of no one who suffered any ill effects, and we all managed to
survive this treatment, as well as living in a world which nobody
expected to be totally covered with foam rubber, with rounded edges.
We lived with lead, DDT,and no safety equipment when engaged in sports.
There were no recalls, and getting hurt was a normal youthful
experience, which one (at least me) were expected to "take it like a
man". one didn't run crying and screaming to the nearest attorney when
one feltthe least bit disrespected, or "injured" by any product,
chemical, or experience. It was kinda nice not to have technology and
most products were made right here in the USA. People actually had real
employment, and "outsourcing" was not in the vocabularly. There actualy
were famlies One toed the line in every activity.,Lest one suffer the
consequences of the belt applied where it would do the most good, and
the Law enforcement community cared naught.
We also carried pocket knives to school, made homemade explosives in
chem lab, had rifle and archery teams, ad I at least, actually built 2
rifles and accurized a Colt 1911A1 pistol in metal shop (a;though I was
on the acdemic track, and headed for College, my father, who happened to
be president of the school board, wanted me to gain practical experience
in handssror3 on Engineering and used his influence to get me in Metal
and Wood shop, as well as Drafting, the training given there served me
well in later life. Said firesarms were carried openly, and resided in
one's locker for storage while being reworked.
On every weekend, a heavily armed group of teenagers could be seen
ambling down route 420 in Prospect Park, PA enroute to what is now the
what is now the Heintz wildlife preserve, to generally engage in fun
activities, mainly consisting of a huge msll, yuppie boxes, food stores,
and many illegal dumps,,,we were able to shoot trap, therinevitiblde
stolen, abandoned car (this is in unwrittten law, that abandoned cars
were to be riddled with bullet holes, shogun patterns, ams rifled slugs.
This had nothing to do with race, religion, skin color, or any other
demographic, everyone folowed strict safety regulatioms. amd nobody got
hurt, since most of not all the partipants were raised around firearms,
leanrned to shoot as a lil children, and everything was self-regulated,
we knew our backstops, what was safe ane what was not , and fun was had
by all :-) Picture this today``````````!~!!!!!. The City was happy
(rats disappeared) The country didn't care, and we all got to have more
fun than should be legal. The important thing here is that not only were
rifles and shotguns carried, pistols were worn openly on belts, and
nobody gave a damn. It sure was a different world, and IMHO one helluva
lot more fun than the culture which exists today. I really wish the
same condx existed today, and many times I wish I could return to the
late 50's/early 60's for not only could one really have fun, boatanchors
and ratt were the norm. We didn't have the chicken little "the sky is
falling" about every single toy produced, lead paint was OK, and there
was no panic about miniscule amounts of lead, etc.
JUst the .02 of an old salt, who will, under Don's orders, get better
--hi--\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
73 es tnx fer putting up with this small rant
for, regardless of what people may believe today, and the plethora of
laws regulating just about everything, it was a different world, and
IMHO, a better one.

who proudly registered for the draft on his 18th birthday, and hoped
like hell he would be called up.......so I enlisted, and have never
regretted one second of the service to this Country
I even extended my active duty, for I felt my life would not be complete
if I didn't get to "see the elephant" in Vietnam, and I wanted the
experience. I regret nothing, and paid my debt to this great Country
who gave me the freedoms which we all should hold sacred. GO NAVY!! ES
BRAVO ZULU TO ALL MEMBERS OF THIS FANTASTIC REFLECTOR.
