any time you  have an electronic instrument that is approx. 17 yrs old, and 
not operated for that period of time, in the factory box,   I suggest that when 
you wish to fire it up, you use a variac, and over a period of 24 hrs, slowly 
increase the ac input voltage, over that 24 hr period, so as to allow the 
electrolytic caps in the supply time to "reform"  otherwise you might end up 
replacing a dried up cap.
