Larry, I am surprised that WINS still does the TTY sound effect. KFWB did
it here for a long time but finally dropped it a number of years ago. I wish
I could remember when we stopped using Model 15 machines at KFI. I think it
was in the late seventies when the Extel machines were put in use by AP.
Sometime in the late eighties KFI went to satellite delivered news from AP which
fed a computer where the news was stored. The news staff eventually started
reading their news from the computer displays along with some printouts. I
am sure you are correct that many of today's listeners do not know what the
sound effect represents.

I feed computer audio output to my Dovetron MPC1000 to drive my Model 15.
It reminds me of the old time sound of radio station newsrooms.
