Thanks, Henning and Jim Haynes, for identifying it as an Olivetti. I 
remember I owned an Olivetti at one time - must have been that one. The 
construction was awful! Built like a clock so you couldn't take it 
re-assemble it without some sort of jig to hold all the spindles still 
while you put the end plates on.

Doesn't hold a candle to Siemens and Creed (or Teletype come to that) 
for robust design.
