An excellent reminder. On my old Mac G3 I replaced the CRT with the
15 inch LCD and am having much better results.

Thanks John,

Mind the video card, cables, and monitor - my first computer-based
RTTY setup (running TrueTTY on a Win98 box) was utterly useless on 20M
- because of the hash and noise put out by the video subsystem.

Gounding the computer case to the station ground, and looping the
VGA cable and monitor power cable thru a couple of large toroids
cleaned it mostly up.

Consider buying an el-cheapo 15" or 17" LCD VGA monitor from Wal-Mart
or Amazon... they're much quieter since they have no high power
scanning circuits, or that pesky beam of electrons waving all over the
inside of the CRT, radiating lots of wide-spectral RF in the process...

  Cheers
