After reading all of the responses so far, I feel ashamed of how
little I have done.

First got hooked by the TTY bug when my father worked at the local
newspaper and I got to see the AP and UPI M15 ROs hammering out all of
the news reports. That trip also got me hooked by the fax bug (but
that is a different story). Dad also introduced me to shortwave radio.

Dad got our first M19 sometime around 1978 or 1979 about a year or two
after he got his novice ticket.

I joined the USAF in 1982 and played "Sky Cop" for four years and
sometime between then and 1983 dad picked up a M28 ASR but never got
it running before he went silent key.

After 4 years of "Sky Cop" I got bright and cross trained into radio
maintenance where I was reunited not only with excellent SW radios but
also got to play with radio fax machines and UGC-129 TTYs for 7.5
years till 1993 when I got out of active duty. 3 months after I
separated I got my No-code Technician License and I am currently
studying for General so I can get these TTYs that I have on the air.
