Hello All:

Jerry WB2CAK here. This has been a fun week reading the reflector.
All of these bios and emailing men from this list. What a fabulous
rescource.

At 55, I am embarking on a new career. I am active with the Battleship
New Jersey Amatuer Radio Station
as you are aware of. Since I was eleven years old I knew of TTY and ATV
and swl since my father was
a ham operator. He and mom and I had a dinner engagement with an
engineer and his wife at their
house. What did Mr. Bob have operational in that day? Radio Teletype! He
was amused at how big
my eyes were when I saw a typewriter working remotely. I was speechless.

Now comes my fun. On the Battleship we have equipment that all the US
military worked on that I never knew
existed or may heard of in conversations with other hams.

I am earning my dues now since anyone can correct a file on the glass
tube rtty or download the latest
application. Yet, when all is said and done, the mechanical units will
still be there if the silicon valley
devices die and we gotta send RTTY TRAFFIC!!!

I thank all of you here at this site for the info, bios and insights. I
hope to be as well versed in a couple of years
about RTTY as most of the members here. CW and RTTY are truly my first
fascination with Amatuer Radio and will
always be. I still marvel when the model 19 is clicking away in the
transmitter room on aboard the Big J.

Believe me , my friends, if someone on board doesnt have the answer
about the machinery,
I will be here to pick your brains.

God Bless our military and especially our vets.

73's

Jerry WB2CAK
