I would think that twisted pair for loop currents would be fine.   
After all, some circuits were many miles long over wires strung on  
telephone/telegraph poles.

For AUDIO, it's a different matter, or can be.  I would use shielded  
twisted pairs, with an isolation transformer on at least one end of  
the circuit.  Experiment by listening (OH?!! What, you mean actually  
LISTEN?) to the audio and change from center tap grounded to one or  
the other side grounded, on one end only.  Be careful of ground loops  
in the audio lines.
