Biggest mistake I made about 25 years ago with my 15 printer was to spray
some Freeall on the selector plates, I thought that light oil would be ok
for that part. It worked well for a while and then gummed up. I had to
take the whole area apart and give it a good cleaning. After that I never
used that stuff for anything.
I put my printer back in service after it had set for about 5 years. It
would print fine except it would not go to the Figs mode. Finally removed
the top part and took the thing outside and gave it a good washing with
some home made gun cleaner called Ed's Red. Mix of kerosene, auto
transmission fluid and a few other things. Then reoiled it and it worked
fine again.
