John,

I recently received an ST-8000A that I purchased but have no 
experience with it yet.  Anyway, on pages 3-12 and 3-13 of the manual 
are instructions for activating a "Regeneration" mode.  The manual 
doesn't explain anything about this mode but I'll guess it provides 
the same type of function as the UT-4 FIFO Buffer.
