The AWA Museum received an AN/TGC-14 "Mighty Mite" a few years ago; I
checked it out, lubricated it, and it was "Basically working". I tried to
use it the other day and found that it has a few problems. The worst of
which is it only prints about a 60 character line and on "carriage return",
it comes back quickly only about half way, then slowly the rest of the way,
but not fast enough to reset the CR function. It needs a push or to
receive a few more characters (printed on top of each other) before it
resets and starts spacing again.

(I was actually trained on the TGC-14 in the Army, but that was over 40
years ago and I never saw one again until this unit came into the museum.
In the Army training class, they told us that it was obsolete and that the
company had gone out of business.)

I was able to remove the ribbon assembly and loosened two big screws at
the back of the typing unit, but could not get it off the chassis.

Can anyone tell me:
a) how the get the typing unit off the chassis?
b) what controls the return of the type cylinder? (I don't see a return
spring anywhere.) The type cylinder seems to move freely on its shaft.
c) what controls the left margin?

Does anyone have a service manual for the TGC-14 that I could copy or buy??
(I have a partial from the Internet, but it is just general info &
schematic.)
