[GreenKeys] Why high loop voltages?

Actually, this very same subject was cussed and discussed at considerable
length here something like two weeks ago. So when the question showed up this
afternoon, I assumed it was tongue in cheek after the lengthy but humorous post
last week on the common cycle of a subject on lists like this one. Only that
it came sooner than 6 months. I expect that if you go to the archives you
could find much the same correct, sorta correct, and incorrect explanations two
or three times a year all the way back to the beginning. Like the oil
question. :-)
I will add one comment about dry versus wet switch contacts, though, as it
was mentioned only in passing in the last cycle. The significant difference
between the switch contacts on the M15 keyboard and those on most if not all
switches in an automotive 6, 12 or 24 volt application is that the latter contacts
are usually of the self-wiping design. The keyboard contacts are non-wiping.
Meaning that after they first touch as they make they do not move relative
to each other. 12 volts is very definitely not enough to reliably burn through
a layer of oil on the keyboard contacts.
