Jack,

I had one at the museum, but never had the time to get it working. I
also had about two dozen print heads for the machine and a dozen
keyboards.
I received all of these keyboards and print heads from a lady in the
surplus business in Ohio. I agreed to take them if she would send me
a UGC-29 and a Army TXC-1, but instead she gave the machines to a
Greenkeyer in Ohio and all I got were the keyboards and print heads.
Interestingly, all of the boxes that contained the keyboards came from
a prison, and were marked "STEAM IRONS."

SDSU still has the one unit in storage. To save space we trashed all
of the print heads and keyboards.

John Saar, a retired RMC, USN wrote that they were difficult to keep
running. He said they had to keep replacing the print heads.

John used to teach Teletype repair at the Naval Training Center, San
Diego. We were trying to get space there for the museum at the time.

Has anyone ever been able to get a UGC-136 to work? The one I got
several

years ago was missing the print head and a lot of other parts (junked
it). It does seem to be a variant of the UGC-129 as far as features/
options.
