When I was in New York Telephone we always joked that
Staten Island/Nassau Smelting was where all of the old 
Ma Bell TTY's ended their days!

Nassau Smelting of Long Island made the solder...it was a divistion of
WECo. 
or AT&T.

My understanding of the "solder issue" is that as the old lead covered

cables were replaced with PIC, the solder was made from the scrap
cable. 
They were the only company to recycle "The Telephone Company" scrap.

I still have some of the Nassau solder rolls I took home from the East

Orange C.O. when hanging out there.
