Hi,
I was tipped off to your group by a fellow computer hobbyist.
Question - Is there anyone in the Philadelphia area (within 200 miles)
that fixes teletypes? My ASR 33 is close to working but it needs some
TLC after being knocked over. Some of the keys are bent, perhaps a cam
or two. Considering how destroyed it was before I stared putting it back
together I am impressed how well these things can be fixed, but I may
need help with the last mile on this project. The 33 does send and
receive commands to my SWTPC 6800 computer, but when the carriage
returns it's slow to get into the start position, and does not complete
the trip until after the first character is printed. Because the
carriage is still sliding back to the left, the 2nd character is printed
where the 1st should be, and the 3rd is typed over the 1st as the
carriage moves right horizontally typing the line on the page.
Let's say that the line to be printed is S1000000000
What happens is:
*_S* (the _ represents the space remaining for the carriage to finish
returning to the rest position, the first character prints approx. where
the 2nd character should)
*1S* (now that the carriage has finished returning, the 2nd character
prints in what should be the 1st character's spot)
*1S000000000* (where S = the 3rd character of the line is typed over the
1st character of the line)
Thanks in advance.
