Larry,
I too tire of the "buffer queens" (like what you ran into) and contesters,
but there are still a group of us that love to rag chew. If I were simply
dumping buffers, or contesting, I'd sell all my gear!!! Some of us (7 or 8
of us at various times) get on a 20m frequency several times a week. We are
NOT exciting, but get to know each other and have become long term friends.
That activity has gained new friends on RTTY after they cruise by and see
us. One of them is an EE in Ethopia that is wanting me to set up a
schedule, like the "old days" on RTTY so we can get to know each other. I
will have a KSR on the air as soon as I can get to pick it up, so don't give
up on all of us greenkeyers who use glass RTTY for convenience or lack of a
current machine.
73,
Don, WB5HAK
