GE OMs;

First, I'd like to thank everyone for their help.

Here's the answers to some of the questions:

___It would help to know what band you intend to operate it on before anyone
___can say if the dimensions are close to being right. What taps you put into
___the coil (turns between taps) may be useful too.]

I was hoping to be able to work 160-10. Yes, an 18' antenna on 160 isn't
exactly perfect for DX :-) but I figured that I could at least get on
there and work a couple of the locals.

Back in the 60's I had a Gotham vertical. It was just a 10-12' piece
of aluminum pipe with a open-air coil at the bottom. It had a tap that
you could move around to switch bands. It worked quite well, too.

___IMHO the G5RV is a pile of crap.

I had one of those. I could only raise it 10' off the roof of my condo
complex. It worked equally poorly on all bands.

___I'd guess that his coil has maybe 150 to 200 turns on it, based on the
___description.That is way too many. I have a Bill Orr Handbook design here
___for 80/40/20/15 meters that uses a 22 foot element and only 40 turns in
___the baseloading coil (it's 40 turns of #16 awg, 2 inches in diameter,
___spaced at 10 turns per inch). The design can be used on 10 meters but
___the coil has to be replaced by a series variable capacitor
___(the element is too long).

___I've offered to email him the design but have not heard back yet.

Wayne, - thanx: I'd like to see the design.

I went to the MFJ website and downloaded the manual for the antenna
analyzer. Also went on eBay and see that there are 46 listings for
antenna analyzers.

AFA the antenna VSWR going from either 1:0:1 and 3.0:1, I'll take the
dummyload out there and connect the coax to it and see what happens.

Kinda miss my 2,000' rhombic with the 1.0:1 VSWR from DC-to-Daylight.

Boy - talk about being able to jump bands!
