The oil used in hydraulic elevators has very few additives, has
excellent anti-wear properties, and is 10W. It is blended to minimize
aroma, many customers object to their buildings smelling like a garage.
Make friends with an elevator mechanic in the service department, and
you should be able to get a gallon can or jug for a cup of coffee and a
donut. They have tens or hundreds of gallons of it in the shop or
stashed on jobs.
