[GreenKeys] OT: Microsoft to support Windows XP for an additional year...

I couldn't disagree with W3NU more. Do not lump WIN7 in with those two
predecessors (Vista & Millenium.) It is stable, and simply works better than
WIN XP as long as you have enough PC to support it. The blue-screen of death
is pretty much gone: WIN7 can crash but generally when that (very rarely)
happens, it brings itself back 'UP'. Drivers and such are easier, and it
will even search for, find, and install 3rd party drivers. It also moves
practically everything 'technical' to Control Panel' where it belongs, and
can generally be ignored by the average user. It networks shared
files/folders/and especially shared printers more easily; and is an order of
magnitude better than Vista. My advice to clients running Vista is to
run-don't walk-to the computer store and get the upgrade.

All that said, if you have a stable, smooth running installation of WIN XP,
there is no absolute reason to replace it with WIN7.

Speaking of replacing 'XP. You cannot simply upgrade from WIN XP to WIN7
without redoing everything. There is no provision from MS to save your
installed programs, etc. However, there is a 3rd party program that works
great: PC Mover from Laplink. Works like a million $$$. See:
http://laplink.com/pcmover/ .

I have avoided Windows Millenium, Vista and 7 for obvious reasons (none of
them work). I have never until tonight heard anyone mention 8.

Something seems wrong here. "End of mainstream support" for XP was in
2009, and "end of extended support" for XP has been April 8, 2014. It
also seems odd that this article makes no mention of Windows Vista, 7, or 8.
